Description
Albert Ràfols-Casamada "Junio" 1999 signed limited edition serigraph, an artist's proof marked P.A. /VIII and hand signed in pencil by the artist.
"Junio" is an abstract composition built from loose, gestural color fields. On the left a slate gray column holds a dark patterned band and a cobalt blue ring above a warm ochre base. A pale vertical stripe edged with a fine red line divides it from the right side, where soft silver gray brushwork sits over a deep plum shape and swirling golden ochre strokes, all framed by a generous white border.
About the P.A. (Artist's Proof): "P.A." (prueba de artista) marks one of a small number of proofs printed apart from the regular numbered edition and traditionally set aside for the artist. This proof is numbered V out of a proof run of only VIII. Because so few artist's proofs exist, collectors often seek them out as especially desirable impressions.
About the artist: Albert Ràfols-Casamada (1923–2009) was a Barcelona-born painter, poet and teacher and one of the leading figures of Catalan abstraction. His lyrical use of color and rhythmic, open brushwork earned him Spain's National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1980.
