Description
Albert Ràfols-Casamada "Ventana al mar" 1998 signed limited edition serigraph on canvas, an artist's proof marked P.A. VIII and hand signed in pencil by the artist.
"Ventana al mar" (Window to the Sea) is a bold abstract composition. A tall column of golden ochre brushed with soft pink strokes runs down the left side, divided by a thin pale green stripe from a broad field of deep cobalt blue. The blue is set with a small coral-pink square, a cream sail-like sliver, fine dark lines and loose light-blue outlines, all framed by a generous cream border.
About the P.A. (Artist's Proof): "P.A." (prueba de artista) marks one of a small number of proofs printed apart from the regular numbered edition and traditionally set aside for the artist. This proof is numbered V out of a proof run of only VIII. Because so few artist's proofs exist, collectors often seek them out as especially desirable impressions.
About the artist: Albert Ràfols-Casamada (1923–2009) was a Barcelona-born painter, poet and teacher and one of the leading figures of Catalan abstraction. His lyrical use of color and rhythmic, open brushwork earned him Spain's National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1980.
