The two sheets of this diptych stack into olive-gray panels on a wide cream border show soft, smoky shadow forms climbing the center like a column, with a small white "c" glowing in the upper panel. Fine drawn lines arc across both panels, and a pale band of light cuts through the lower half.
About the H.C.: H.C. stands for "hors commerce," French for "not for trade." These proofs are pulled outside the regular numbered edition and were traditionally kept for the artist, the printer or exhibitions, so very few exist, and collectors often prize them for their rarity.
Vicenç Viaplana (born 1955, Granollers, Barcelona) is a Catalan painter known for layered, carefully built works that capture light, shadow and blurred forms, moving between abstraction and figuration.
