Description
Albert Ràfols-Casamada (1923) "Xaloc"
Albert Ràfols-Casamada (February 2, 1923 – December 17, 2009) was one of the most prominent and multifaceted Catalan artists of the 20th century avant-garde, celebrated globally as a master painter, prolific poet, and transformative art educator. Unlike his contemporaries Antoni Tàpies or Antonio Saura, whose works leaned toward sombre, tormented tones, Ràfols-Casamada was a "painter of light" who infused his canvases with radiant, Mediterranean warmth and sensory balance.
"Xaloc" is a prominent 1991 artwork by the acclaimed Catalan abstract artist Albert Ràfols-Casamada. Created using a mixed media technique of silkscreen combined with marble dust or sand on paper, the piece exemplifies his signature style of lyrical abstraction, structure, and poetic rendering of the natural environment.
