Description
Julio Zachrisson Acebedo (1930) "Serie la Manigua II" 2004
Serigraphy on paper
Approx. Measurements: 65L x 50W cm
Artist: Julio Augusto Zachrisson Acebedo (1930–2021), a highly influential Panamanian painter, printmaker, and sculptor who spent much of his career in Spain.
Visual Style: The piece features a stylized figure captured in a dynamic pose, intricately enveloped by lush, dense leafy patterns characteristic of a "manigua" (a tropical thicket or jungle brush).
Zachrisson’s work frequently blends elements of Central American mythology, African diaspora roots, and European classicism. The term "Manigua" heavily evokes the wild, untamed nature of Latin American tropical landscapes, a recurring thematic element in his grotesque, mythological, and deeply symbolic visual vocabulary.
